Samui Island, Thailand, April 6

Samui is an island off the East coast of Thailand noted for its beautiful beaches and tranquil settings. It was once the secret holiday getaway for wealthy Thai. Now, it is a bustling international island resort. The port is small, so we had to use the tender to go ashore. The waves were high, and it was quite an adventure, especially boarding the heaving tender. Some of the older and frailer passengers had quite a struggle. But, all made it safe and sound, eventually.

The shore tour covered two temples, one monkey, and a bus tour of the island. One of the temples had a gigantic Buddha, 39 feet high. The other had a large statue of the Goddess of Mercy with 18 arms. We are already getting templed out. The monkey was the best. They train monkeys to pick coconuts. An adult monkey can pick 1000 coconuts a day. The demonstration monkey whipped up the tree at lightning speed, twisted the coconuts to break them free, and let them drop to the ground. He was a good little worker. No union either.

Tomorrow is a day at sea. Then off to Singapore.

We’re still working on the photo issue. Hopefully, we will find a way to get some onto the blog.

Cheers, P&G
