Travel to the Taj Mahal, April 19

Well here we are in the city of Agra, India, the home of the famous "wonder of the world" Taj Mahal.  Tomorrow we visit it.  Today was spent getting here.  We left our ship at 6 AM (yes George was up that early), bussed to Cochin Airport, flew 3 hours to Delhi, bussed 4 hours to Agra, and checked into a very nice North American style Radisson Hotel.

In Cochin on the ride to the airport, we drove up beside a large flatbed truck carrying an elephant.  We have no idea  where the elephant was going, but he looked quite nonchelant about it all.

Stop complaining about our airport security.  This is the way they do it in India. They  separate  the men and women then frisk away.

We were quite surprised on the 4 hour drive from Delhi to Agra to find that most of that section of India is fertile farm country, and always has been.  Indeed, this is the reason that over many centuries invading armies have always focussed on this section to conquer first.

The Radisson Hotel, behind Peggy, complete with playing field.  The buffet dinner of great Indian food tonight was followed by folk dancing by a couple of young girls in beautiful costumes.

Tomorrow we have to be on the bus by 5:15 am (seriously!!!) to see the Taj Mahal at sunrise.  I sure hope it's worth it.

Having fun, P&G

  1. hey you two!! I am really enjoying your blog and read it every couple of days. What an adventure you are having! Thanks for taking the time to blog and take pics so we can all enjoy!

PS MWGC opened yesterday. Brrr. The first Marathon bomber was killed in a shootout and they caught the second one. They are brothers, originally from Chechnya (sp?), and have been in the states for years since they were young boys. Of course they have Canadian relatives who helped to sponsor them so we'll never hear the end of it. Liz

  2. Looking forward to your pictures of the Taj Mahal. Given that you have to leave by 5:15am to see it at sunrise I know that is something that I will never experience! Best to live it through the two of you.
