Singapore Sling at Raffles, April 9

Today we were on our own so we rode the subway to Raffles Hotel and had Singapore Slings at the Long Bar, the very place where the drink was invented.  The bar is indeed long, L-shaped, and looks like it has not changed in 100 years  -- dark wood, wicker chairs, actual fans that wave back and forth on the ceiling, not modern rotating fans.  Suprisingly, the bar was not that busy, so we were able to sit right at the bar itself.  We were very impressed.

We also did some mall browsing and shopping.  Or, at least one of us did.  I just hung around.  Peggy was impressed with the malls and ranks them right up there with Hong Kong.  They were quite busy, and people were buying.  It seems to be a bouyant economy.

Weather continues hot and muggy.  We had a brief thunderstorm late this afternoon, but it did not cool anything off.  Tonight we are eating at one of the two specialty restaurants, the Polo Grill.  It specializes in steaks, etc.  We hear the prime rib roast is excellent.  Will probably try that.

Here are the two Singapore Slingers.

Cheers, P&G
